Personally, Ill probably get a Panasonic Toughbook for its ruggedness but second choice would be a Toshiba for other resons. I have not looked at the Acer line in laptops yet.
Aha! I said. Why is Toshiba is willing to blow off that one-third of the market that prefers touchpads? The ideal product mix would contain some models with the eraser-like pointer, and some models with touchpads. That way, Toshiba would sell more laptops.
This situation puzzled me so much that I called their U.S. laptop marketing office in Irvine, California, to inquire. The man whom I spoke to told me that one-third of all U.S. laptop users prefers the eraser-like pointing device (found on U.S. Toshiba laptops), one-third prefers touchpads, and one-third doesnt care.
No! Many laptops do NOT come with this port. It would even be safe to say that MOST laptops do not have a game port. For joysticks, etc., laptops make do with parallel, serial, USB and IEEE 1394 ports.
Additionally, you would need some form of input devices, and here is where it would be nice to know where you can buy working keyboards w/trackpads from otherwise defective laptops.
